Foreword from our director  Susan Gunn-Johnson

Gilbert was perhaps using his sharpest
pen for this satirical look at the æsthetic movement of the latter part of the 19th century. Drawn together are the three worlds of romance, rural simplicity and military discipline (occasionally bluster)
and be prepared for humour in each setting.

Sullivan’s music for this libretto is a delight and, as always, St David’s Players will
focus on maintaining their well-earned reputation for high quality singing and playing under the masterful baton of the talented Mary Pickard.

Set in period against a specially designed backdrop of woodland and distant castle, with a combination of Pre-Raphaelite, Victorian and Military costumes there will
be much to see as humour, choreography and cameo moments carry the story along.

‘Patience’ is less frequently seen than some other G&S works - in fact St David’s Players themselves have not performed it since 1992, so here is an opportunity to see this delightful operetta in October.

We shall be delighted to welcome you
to the
Exeter Barnfield Theatre between
11th - 15th October to see our production of ‘Patience’, where all the fun we have had in preparation will burst on to the stage.
